Empowering Change in Our Communities

Celebrating Courage 🏅

As-Salamu Alaikum, Dear Minara Community,

In this week’s newsletter, we want to talk about small changes that can make the biggest impact. In a time of uncertainty and feeling unsafe as a community, what small acts can unite us?

We also reflect on a Quranic verse that encourages accountability and celebrate a story of courage and empowerment from the sports world.

Small Changes, Big Impact ❤️

Creating Supportive Spaces for Muslims

In times when feeling isolated or disconnected is increasingly common, especially in the West, small, thoughtful initiatives by individuals can significantly enhance the Muslim community's sense of belonging and support:

🕌 Open a Prayer Space at Work: Initiating the idea of a dedicated prayer space in your workplace can greatly ease the daily lives of Muslim employees, encouraging them to maintain their prayer schedule without stress.

👥 Create a Community Network: Forming a network where local Muslims can gather, share, and address relevant issues fosters a strong sense of community and collective empowerment.

The Ripple Effect: These actions not only benefit individuals directly involved but also set a precedent for others to follow, potentially leading to widespread positive change across multiple communities.

Why Small Deeds?

Islam teaches us that no act of kindness or contribution is too small; even the simplest acts can weigh heavily on our scales of good deeds.

The most beloved of deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if it is small.” (Bukhari)

Ayah Reflection of the Week ✨

Surah Al-Haqqah, Verse 19:

كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ

"He will be given his record in his right hand, and he will say, 'Here, read my record!'"

This verse reminds us of the Day of Judgment when each individual will be given their record of deeds. Those who receive their record in their right hand will rejoice, having succeeded in their earthly tests. This reflection encourages us to strive for righteous actions that will, insha'Allah, lead to receiving our record in our right hand.

Story of the Week: Sifan Hassan’s Courageous Stand 🏅

Sifan Hassan, a Dutch middle- and long-distance runner, made headlines at the Olympics Closing Ceremony in Paris by donning a hijab amidst the country's controversial hijab ban and the broader hostility towards Muslim practices.

Her act of wearing the hijab proudly at such a high-profile event is not just a personal victory but a powerful statement of defiance and solidarity with Muslim women worldwide.

It highlights the importance of standing firm in one's beliefs, regardless of the challenges or opposition faced.

Concluding Thoughts

Let's take inspiration from the examples shared this week to initiate positive changes in our own lives and communities.

Whether it's creating a prayer space, starting a community group, or standing up for our beliefs, every small act contributes to a larger wave of positive impact and understanding.

With prayers for your courage and initiative,

The Minara Team 🌙
