Meet Minara at Muslim Tech Fest 👀🚀
As-Salamu Alaikum, Beloved Minara Family,
This week’s newsletter dives into the enriching history of Salah in Islam and explores practical tips for cultivating mindfulness in our prayer practices. Let’s embark on a journey to deepen our understanding and enhance our daily connection with Allah.
Plus, we're excited to invite you to a very special event that’s close to our hearts! 🥰
How Salah Came to Be ☪️
The Gift of Communication
Salah, our five daily prayers, was gifted to the Muslim Ummah during the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) miraculous night journey, Isra and Mi'raj.
This profound event not only marks saa pinnacle in the Prophet’s spiritual journey but also the moment when Allah bestowed upon us a direct line of communication with Him.
During the Night Journey 🌙
During the night journey, the Prophet (peace be upon him) travelled from Mecca to Jerusalem and then ascended to the heavens where he was given the instructions for the five daily prayers.
Initially, fifty prayers were mandated, but after several interactions with Allah, prompted by the advice of Prophet Musa, the number was graciously reduced to five daily prayers, with the reward of fifty.
Why Salah? 🌙
- Constant Remembrance: Salah serves as a constant reminder of our purpose and keeps us connected to our faith throughout the day.
- Spiritual Discipline: Regular prayers help discipline the soul, organise the day, and give us the much-needed intervals for spiritual reflection.
- Moral Compass: The prayers are not only commands from Allah but are meant to prevent us from indecency and wrongdoing, reinforcing moral behaviour.
This divine command has not just structured our days but enriched our lives with rhythm, purpose, and a continual reminder of the divine presence.
Mindfulness in Salah: Connecting More Deeply During Prayer 🤲🏼
Enhancing Presence and Intentionality
Mindfulness in Salah transforms it from a just a daily routine to a profound engagement with Allah. Here’s how you can enhance mindfulness and deepen your connection during each prayer:
1. Clear Your Mind: Before the Takbir (saying "Allahu Akbar"), take a moment to detach from worldly concerns.
2. Renew Your Intentions: Reflect on the purpose of the prayer. Remind yourself that you are standing in front of Allah, who oversees all things.
3. Reflect on Your Day: Consider what has passed since your last prayer. What joys did you experience? What challenges did you face?
4. Aim for Improvement: Each Salah is an opportunity to be better than the last. Strive to improve your focus and deepen your understanding of the recitation.
5. Embrace the Silence: After completing your Salah, stay seated for a few moments. Use this time for personal Duas or simply to bask in the tranquility and peace prayer brings.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (445) and Muslim (649) from Abu Hurayrah, according to which the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The angels pray for one of you so long as he remains in the place where he prayed, so long as he does not commit a sin. They say: ‘O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him.’”
